Our studio was approached to design this Indian restaurant post completion of the mechanical and firefighting services in the premise. The studio was requested to conceive a design solution which could work around the existing service lines. The 3000sq.ft of dining space split over two levels in a long commercial building on Barwa Commercial Avenue in the city of Doha, Qatar has a full height glazed facade prompting us to create a shell within a shell. The front part of the restaurant has a double height voluminous space which allowed us to raise a section of the seating by 18″ creating a more private dining area without creating a physical partition. The walls and the ceiling were painted black and covered with timber battens. A series of spoon shaped battens were suspended from the ceiling creating an array of pattern floating over the double height dining space. The singular colour of timber lined interior space evokes the realization of sand dunes.
